The
BBC is a
DEFRA-approved supplier of close rings which can be purchased
between 1 January and 31 August each year. Prices start at £2.50 for a
minimum order of ten rings per size for members; non-members have to
pay £2.00 extra per size. The BBC also publishes a number of
information and advice leaflets, including one on birdkeeper's legal
rights if investigated by the police or other law inforcement
agencies.
Breeding programmes are
co-ordinated by the BBC to establish viable captive-bred strains of
British birds. The most notable involved Scottish Crossbills with several
hundred being bred. In 1998, a Redwing Breeding Programme was set-up with
a licence from the DEFRA to take 60 birds from the wild. Initial
registration fees and DNA testing will be paid for by the
BBC.
The majority of
regional British bird specialist societies in the UK are affiliated to the
BBC, as well as some from abroad. This entitles each one to send two
delegates to meetings, where all decisions are taken by a majority vote.
In addition, a further
two delegates are elected to represent members of the Council who are not
members of any affiliated club. These "Members' Delegates" are Wendy

wishing to have a matter raised should contact them.
All meetings are open
to members who are encouraged to attend and make their opinions known.
They are guaranteed a fair hearing so that the delegates can make up their
minds on whatever is proposed. The meetings are usually held in March and
September at the Premier Travel Inn, Coventry Road, Nuneaton, Warks CV10
7PJ. The AGM takes place at the same venue on the 3rd Sunday in March
